Our Story

We at Victoria Park Florist hold ourselves to the highest standards of customer satisfaction and offer an unconditional guarantee on everything you buy. Simply put, we will do whatever it takes to make you happy.

Dave and Margaret Pender started Victoria Park Florist in 2004 when they moved to Chapel Hill after living together in Zimbabwe for over 30 years.  They met in High School when Dave left the USA with his parents who became missionaries in 1972.  Margaret grew up on a farm outside of Masvingo, Zimbabwe and, to attend school, used to ride in and out with the daily milk truck. Besides the dairy, they also grew commercial flowers on the farm, and Margaret's mother and grandmother were expert floral designers and taught little Margaret all the tricks of the trade. The farm was called "Victoria Park" after the park across the road from the house where Margaret's grandfather was born in London. Now you know how the florist got it's name. Margaret and Dave fell in love, married and were blessed with two lovely daughters, Melanie and Michelle who now also live in the Triangle.

Over the years Margaret has developed an eclectic design style, constantly reaching out to explore new ways to bring flowers together into exciting and inspired creations. Many of our customers have learned the joy of discovering what will come when they ask her to do something different. As the florist has developed and expanded we have been fortunate to enlist the expert assistance of some very fine designers each with a style and flair of their own.  It's a large team all with a passion for flowers and a dedication to our customers. Interestingly almost all of our designers are artists in another field as well. Among them are ceramics, stained glass, painting, beadworking, mask making and singer/song writing. Creativity and inspiration follows many paths and we've found that the best artists are often excellent in more than one. Our goal is to offer you a friendly, customer oriented service in all aspects of floral design for all occasions. We also stock a nice range of high quality green and blooming plants.

In April 2022, we moved into our own premises - a charming old farm house who's foundations date to 1882 just north of Chapel Hill at the intersection of two major roads and a railway.  Once an unincorporated town called Blackwood boasting it's own post office and train station.  We spent two years renovating the old place and it's now our new spacious and comfortable home, next door to the popular New Hope Market and near to the old Allen & Sons BBQ that closed a few years ago but has just re-opened as "The Sidetrack" bar and grill.  Parking at the florist is easy and access is too, so come see us at 6113 NC 86 and we'll show you around.
